In Reconstrucciones I I recollected all the objects I had of an old lover – among these, a bronze mold I made of him while smoking – and arranged a small sanctuary, a reliquary of useless clutter.
Through this action, which might remind of a compulsive hoarder, I wanted to rebuild up an identity and point out that our existence survives in the remains we forsake along the way. Here, objects become tra- ces of our passage, footsteps of a past life that constantly intersects the present, they assume new form and possibilities. A so-called fétiches de la mémoire, whose inner strength is to preserve what is gone and free man from the inescapable feeling of upcoming death.
Temporarily, at least.
